Trickle-down

The Great Shiny Woven Tie Explosion of 2004 (referenced in my October 8 entry) trickled down to the discount stores in 2005. Burlington Coat Factory had (and probably still has) a wide selection of these cheaply luxurious ties, and was the source for this Adolfo Gold grid of circles in black, blue, purple, and silver.

When I commented earlier on other quality labels for these types of ties, I missed one: Merona (yep, the Target house label.) Merona ties are also made by Superba, the same folks who make Ted Baker and City of London, quality is excellent, designs are in the ballpark (although often not as lavish), and ... The Price Is Right!

Oh yeah! We seem to be in a mini-Golden Age of neckties, they are even getting prominent exposure on Ugly Betty. Now if only there were a new wave of Pucci-style prints...

I'll be perfectly happy enjoying the wild (and not-so-wild) wovens we're seeing now. I know they're too sedate for your taste, but I'm seeing a resurgence in rich, soft, heavy foulard silk twills (40-ouncers) with ornate prints, especially from Robert Talbott, my all-time fave house.

The wovens are certainly nice. I don't even know where to look for ties in Ithaca, but I will keep an eye out for the new Talbotts you mention, they sound like a bit of all right.

And thanks for looking, mystr sal!

I'll take a hi-res pic of my two. One is a lush, vivid, intricate traditional paisley - in a fun spring-season combo of yellow, gold, orange, and pink!

I'd love to see them, you can send them to me at burlveneer at "yeeha" dot com, "yeeha" being an alias for a popular web portal.

Have you ever realized that when you buy readymade suits you get a choice of only a few colors & styles, also finding the perfect fit are quite difficult? Wouldn’t it be better to choose from over 2000 different British & Italian fabrics and get a tailor made suit at a similar price that you pay for readymade suits?

We are a company based in Hong Kong and have been providing custom made suits & shirts since 1997. With representatives in major cities around the globe we can arrange to show you the fabric samples and take your measurements, or you can also place your orders online with the help of our measuring guide. There are over 2000 fabrics to choose from along with all the latest styles.

All our suits and shirts are produced by highly skilled Shanghainese tailors in Hong Kong and delivered in about 4 weeks, express delivery can be made in 2 weeks at a minor extra cost. In case you are not able to find what you are looking for then please let us know your requirement may it be in words or by a photograph and we could arrange it for you.

We also have an outlet at the Hotel Intercontinental Budapest where you are most welcome to visit us. Though we are not located in streets like Savile Row (London), we have still been able to offer made to measure suits to many VIP’s from around the world.
