Ted Baker

Oops, what with catching up the kids with homework for their new schools and going to back-to-school night, I have fallen a few days behind on the blog. Here, then, is Wednesday's tie, from UK clothier Ted Baker. Baker hit the scene with a line of heavy, shiny, woven-patterned silk ties about three or four years ago (about the same time as the City of London ties popped up, which I believe are made by the same company), and within months everybody else was on the bandwagon. I chose this Ted Baker tie for its suggestiveness of one of my favorite childhood toys, Pressman Crystal Climbers.

Ferrell Reed also had a City of London line. They are a notch above the regular Ferrell Reed line, IMO. I like them so much that I've been snatching up as many as possible on eBay. I still haven't figured out if there's any tie (pun intended) between the two.

Good to see you back and blogging!

Hey Bill,

Hope the new house is working out well! The previous owner of my "new" house was clueless when it came to maintenance. He literally could not change a light bulb.

I had played with the Crystal Climbers many hours as a child. We didn't have much money, so I never owned them--they belonged to my best friend Kevin (whose father was a vet that treated the Washington Bullets' mascot Tiny). I didn't even know what they were called. Thanks for posting the link.

Thanks, it's good to be back! My folks got me all kinds of building toys: Tinkertoys, Lincoln Logs, Togl Blocks, Deely-Boppers, Lego, probably more.
